Um...the MattMo folks I know are the least cliquey of the pairing sub-fandoms I've encountered. Of course, I've been away for a bit, and there were some kerfuffles going on at the time I had to go take a break, so anything could have happened.

OTOH, in my experience there seem to be more indiscriminate squee generators in the Mylar set than in the MattMo set. And

mylar_fic has almost twice the membership of

mytwoheroes...don't expect to get as many comments.

Um...the MattMo folks I know are the least cliquey of the pairing sub-fandoms I've encountered. Of course, I've been away for a bit, and there were some kerfuffles going on at the time I had to go take a break, so anything could have happened.

They're not actively mean, but they do seem very stand off-ish to new people compared to mylar_fic. I was ok with that because the ship attracts a different kind of person and squeeing didn't seem the norm. But... the same four or five prolific authors all seem to comment on each other's fics and not anyone else's. They seem nice and fun, I just feel a bit excluded as I always comment on their fics but I don't think they even read mine or reply to my comments. They also come across as a tad... self important? That's not the right word because they have fun with it. But they seem convinced they're the best authors ever and I wonder if they comment on each other just to keep their own comment counts high. I don't know, it's probably just me being jealous.

I'm not going to stop commenting on their's or anything. I read because I like it and I comment because I like it, the comm just doesn't have the same welcoming, fun atmosphere. Good authors obviously do get recognition (those 4/5 are very good) so I must conclude my fics are not good. So sad, cry moar. ::shrugs:: I'm happy to hang out with the more laid back in mylar_fic. I just wish I could get some honest concrit there as no matter how bad a fic is, if it has sex, it will have fans.

That's really odd. The standoffish-ness, not the "mutual admiration society" vibe (I think all fic comms get that after a while). I know who you're talking about, and I know they chat/comment a lot among themselves, but I also know they understand the give-and-take of commenting, and they used to make a point to be welcoming. It might stem from the plagiarism flap, that they're subconsciously worried either a) the person might come back in disguise or b) they might get burned again...but just judging from the (slightly outdated) information I have, I really doubt it. I wish I'd ever written anything for the pairing so I'd have a pre-flap experience to compare to yours, but no such bunnies. ::shrugs::

A sad truth in any fandom. If it's any consolation, your writing style here doesn't bear any doomy marks of badfic. :)
