Yeah, she was unappealing in every way.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to laugh, but actually I was hugely into all the CSIs and now I think about it I have a long list of things I'm not over...

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG OP ME TOO. I never liked her at all. Lady Heather/Grissom had my vote, lol.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
heather and grissom actually connected with each other

grissom would get bored of sara so damn fast

I was about equally into Lady Heather/Grissom and Catherine/Grissom. I would have been happy with either being canon. Or no ship being canon. No ship would have been better than Grissom/Sara.

I liked Lady Heather/Grissom too! Loved their chemistry.

I agree, but my remaining bitterness is mostly due to how the actors responded to people not liking the relationship. Grissom's actor saying that people just didn't want Grissom to be happy for example. That just soured me on the show in general.

People fall for co-workers, hon.

I suppose even two rude, distant people can fall for each other if they see each other all the time. (Speaking as a rude, distant person.)

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't need to make a note of being a rude person with a first sentence like that. You'd already shown it.

HON HON HON EIFFEL TOWER BAGUETTE

(Anonymous) 2017-06-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
OP never said they felt the romance was implausible because they were co-workers. OP clearly cites Sarah's unpleasant personality and lack of chemistry between the two. You're attempting a straw man fallacy, hon.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I was okay with Sara, but I remember being really weirded out by this pairing, at least partly because up until they came out and said it I'd been interpreting their relationship mostly as him being a fatherly coworker towards her (or at least as fatherly as Grissom manages), so her apparent attraction to him weirded me out, and him responding wasn't much better. I do realise that this was more a fault of my perception than anything, but it still made the pairing come out of the blue for me and stay in mildly uncomfortable territory.

If I was hoping for any relationship among the characters, I suppose it would have been Grissom/Catherine. I did like Grissom/Lady Heather, but I remember feeling that he wasn't always as kind to her as I'd have liked him to be. Their chemistry was off the charts, though, I'm just not sure it would have ended well. Grissom/Catherine seemed more equal to me. Plus there was that scene with the bowtie. That one stuck in my head.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Right there with you. Even though, as a slasher, my choice was Warrick/Grissom, I liked Grissom/Lady Heather...and probably could've stomached Gris/Catherine. But I could never stand Sara, she was so whiney and unprofessional, I just never saw Grissom being interested in her--he seemed to be more of a mentor.

CSI ended for me about 5 minutes before they paired these two up. And then, after they killed Warrick off? Yeah. I did watch his death scene and the funeral but that's all I've ever watched of the remainder of seasons of CSI.

Pairing Gris and Sidle was a slap in the face to so many fans...

I didn't hate Gris/Sara but I was so pissed about them killing Warrick off. I couldn't enjoy the show at all after that.

I never could see Grissom/Sara either. I'm with the other anon who saw Grissom as more of a paternal mentor to Sara. It growing obvious the show was going to pair them up was one of the reasons I stopped watching.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I quit only because I no longer had cable and couldn't watch regularly, then at a much later point, finally caught an episode and everything had turned ridiculously sensationalized. But I quit before that pairing became canon and years later, still feel distaste over it happening. Sara was just too judgmental, all the time in personality for me to be able to scrape up any appreciation for her as a character.

Sucks that the actors felt the need to step in with shipping opinions.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sucks that the actors felt the need to step in with shipping opinions."

Details? I don't think I heard about this.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I could've made this secret in my sleep, OP! I never got on board the GSR bandwagon. Sara was one of my least favorite characters on CSI - like you said, rude, abrasive, always getting "too personal" with cases to the point where she's clearly unsuited for her job. And zero chemistry. When they did that big "Grissom and Sara have been together all along!" reveal, I just rolled my eyes, it was so try hard. To be honest, I'm not even sure GSR shippers were happy because it presented their ship as a fait accompli with barely any hint of it in canon.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-19 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. They just never seemed to work. She was too pushy and he seemed so uncomfortable any time her interest became too blatant. She was also so judgmental and he was so open-minded.

For me, the thing I'm still bitter about is the series finale. I stuck with CSI to the end because Greg was my favorite character. After they got rid of Langston, the show really found its groove again and I liked the new characters. I was invested. But, the finale pretty much ignored the YEARS of development that went on in the show to once again focus on Gil and Sara, which hadn't been a thing since their divorce. I wanted two hours of the characters I was still watching. Greg barely got to do anything.

I also felt they shortchanged Sara. I didn't like her character but I think some of that is how they wrote her when she was with Gil. When they finally gave her a divorce and gave her storylines focused on her history and her own job growth, she was an interesting character. Then the finale did away with all that. Worse, the finale just hit home how terrible the two of them are for each other. Their communication skills were lousy. And, she was sacrificing her career for him. And, they assassinated Lady Heather's character for Gil/Sara that felt awkward and forced. It was such a letdown all around.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I did not know all that finale stuff. Ouch. I dropped all the CSIs when Stella's actress left NY the year the execs raised pay for all the male actors and cut it for the women. Kind of glad, because all three of them really went off the rails as far as I can tell. (I didn't keep up with much gossip because I was super bitter. I was heavily involved in the Mac/Stella fandom.)

(Anonymous) 2017-06-19 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
What always makes me roll my eyes is that, were Sara a guy, all of these traits would be just fine because Guys Being Guys.

I think the show was pretty clear about how terrible their relationship was.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-19 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Even if that wasn't the writers' intention.

I'm apparently the outlier here because Grissom/Sara are my CSI OTP and I fucking LOATHED Catherine. I usually spent most of her screen time wished someone would punch her stupid face.

I don't understand how everyone can say they disliked Sara because she was "rude" while also saying they really like Catherine.

Sara is not my favourite character on the show, but I don't dislike her either. I was never on-board With the Grissom/Sara ship, as their chemistry (or lack thereof) never worked in my opinion. In some cases it came of as "hot for mentor", With him not really knowing how to deal with it. When they did the reveal, that they had been an item for a while, it just fell flat.

Then again I'm more of a rare-pair slasher with a thing for Grissom/Brass.
