Heatwave in a cold country

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Somebody turn down the heat to the usual 18C again, please. I can't cope with real heat. Not to mention the humidity. Our houses are built to keep heat in, not vent it out. Why does it seem to actually get warmer in the hour after sunset? I swear I must have sweated out three gallons of water today.

How is the weather where you are?

22°C here, while it's not too hot yet in itself, is already insufferable because of my neighbours. They're very noisy and send way too much cigarette smoke in my direction so I have to keep my windows closed, urgh.

Smokers are the worst. I'm glad they are dying out. Less than 20% of the people of my country smoke now, and most of those are over the age of fifty. We're only a couple of generations away from being tobacco free now. Its an addiction 400 years in the beating.

Uk is hell.

I was at a con this weekend, and I couldn't even be doing with the few elements of my costume for more than half a day. It was just wide belt with pouches, a scarf and goggles and I had to nope out of it after 3 hours.

How do you find cons in the UK? Google only ever shows me MCM in London, even when it's months away. I've never been to a con and want to try some smaller/less crowded ones. I can't handle massive crowds indoors :(

Subscribe to fanzines, they'll have details about cons and fangroups in the back.

I was part of the team that put this cons fist ever website together. Thats how I found it. It was local, and I got free tickets. Been there every year since. I have no idea how other people lucked into finding out about it.

Excessively hot, as well. I slept through the hottest, most humid part of the day, thankfully (think it affected my dreams), but today was apparently hellish. (25 degrees, and 100% humidity.)

It's so humid and hot here today too. But it's tolerable enough, it could get hotter and it will, since it's only June.

It is hot where I am but 20 degrees cooler today than yesterday. So that is a plus!

It's been raining for a week straight, and it's been wet weather for basically a month so far. I fucking can't stand it! This is drought country, motherfucker! Gimme a hot dry dustbowl again please!!

Re: Heatwave in a cold country

From another usually drought-stricken area--I will take all your rain, please. We had tons more than usual this year, but a big chunk of the state is still listed as "abnormally dry," although that's a huge improvement on last year's "drink so much water you slosh when you walk or risk being an insta-mummy within five minutes of going outside" drought rating.

According to my weather app, I live in Satansville. We pull the curtains on each window as the sun hits them and it has kept the house cool. I took the dog to a park with some lakes for the day and it was very nice. Turns out that lots of shade, a picnic lunch, and a sopping wet doggo rolling in sand is my personal heaven.

The wather has been in the high 90s here for a week. Texas and all. But still, way too hot for me. Most places don't seem to have the aircon up high enough to combat the heat. Also, it is more humid than usual, which is making it feel even hotter. Plus, the sun is just bright. I don't go outside right now any more than I have to.

It's alternating between 18°C and 32+°C constantly these last weeks and it's giving me near constant migraines from hell.

It's warm as balls here and set to be this way for most of the week, and we might be in the same geographical area because the houses where I am are not built for warm weather like this either. It's making sleeping fun.

It just hit 90f, which is normal for here, but of course my effin AC goes out after doing just fine all spring, after 5pm on a Sunday.

I'll call someone in the morning.

It's a 102F here and it's just gonna get hotter next week. That's actually fairly average for where I live, but it still sucks. The heat gives me headaches and I have to close all the blinds and turn on the A/C to actually be productive instead of melting into a sweaty puddle of ooze.

16°C today, and it was 18°C the other day.
This is very upsetting, because it is the middle of winter, and I live about as far south as I can without moving to Argentina or something. Fuck global warming, and fuck politicians.

Excessive heat warning in effect until sunset Thursday for us.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-19 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's supposed to be 113°F (45°C) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Yep. Not unused to the heat but when it gets up above 110, it can get bad, heat exhaustion is no joke (nor are the burns that little one can get from falling on the sidewalks). You also stay safe and hydrated.
