I'm usually on the side against breeds and prefer mutts, but some friends own the most adorable labradoodle (they didn't buy him, but adopted him from a family who bought and then neglected him), and holy shit that dog is the sweetest dog EVER. He's so fluffy and cute, and he's really gentle, and super well-mannered. I have never liked a dog as much as I like that dog. He actually makes me want to own a dog, seriously.

Technically a labradoodle is a mutt. There is no real agreed upon breed standard for it yet nor a pedigree scheme. Most labradoodles out there lave more than just labrador and poodle in them. Hell, some of them you ar elucky if they have either of them in them. A little bit of curly hair and they call it a labradoodle. There are a few breed standards schemes that are trying to get a reliable bloodline in place, along with a broad genetic base so as to avoid the genetic diseases a lot of other breeds have, and a breed standard, but it'll be a long time before you can buy a true labradoodle which you know is a labradoodle. They might not even be able to use labradoodle as the breed name in its own on account of being too generic, it might end up being "White Coated Labradoodle" or something like that just so it can have a protected name.

Huh, interesting. In this case, from what I know it does have both labrador and poodle (the people buying it wanted it more for the "names" than really thinking about the dog, and labradoodles were in vogue. they were not remotely responsible pet owners).

I am not terribly invested in dog-breeding overall, but at least from what you're saying it sounds like there are some people who are trying to be responsible. Too many breeds are just animal cruelty...
