I don't hate her, she seems like a sweet person with a good heart. But Emma Watson is a weak actress and can only be successful playing characters that don't require much in terms of acting or facial expressions.

I think she's improved quite a bit in recent years, but I will agree that comparatively, she's a weak actress.

But what roles have demonstrated any improvement? I think she was fine as Hermoine, because that role really didn't need much besides her to more or less act like herself. It wasn't really a "character" role and didn't need much depth. Belle in Beauty and the Beast is what I've seen her in most recently of course, and that's basically the same role. It doesn't require much acting, but I also get the distinct impression that I'm watching Emma Watson read lines and "act". It's okay, the role is basically the same as Hermoine, she doesn't need to do much. But she certainly doesn't excel in it either.

I agree with what you're saying, but the one thing I remember about the earlier Potter films was how much she acted with her eyebrows/her brow bone in general, just shifting it up and down and sideways to create her facial expressions. That seems to have subsided in recent years.

I definitely think Beauty and the Beast suffered from "This is Emma Watson reading Belle" as opposed to "This is Belle," but I think there were subtle variations in her performance as Mae in The Circle. Not a whole lot. Never enough so that you think "This is Mae" as opposed to "This is Emma Watson reading Mae," but the character is...more vulnerable than either Hermione or Belle? More naive?

I don't know. Like I said, I think the improvement is largely: She stopped acting primarily with her eyebrows and she's gotten better at nuance, but she's still not great.

I liked her in Perks of Being a Wallflower, but the movie seemed to overall be really underrated.
