Are you under the impression that human sword fighting has to look awkward and clumsy? Bob Anderson would disagree with you, if he were still alive.

No, of course not. But I wouldn't expect Eowyn to look the way an elf does with a sword. And given her character, awkward makes sense to me? Her discomfort with herself and her issues and conflicting desires I think could manifest in how she uses a sword. Not to say that I think the move version was perfect. But I don't think it was quite as bad as this thread is saying.

I think there's a lot of middle ground between "looking clumsy with a sword" and "looking like an elf with a sword". I wouldn't expect Eowyn to fight like an elf, but I'd expect her to demonstrate a certain level of competency and ease of movement and comfort with sword handling that's comparable to the rest of her people. Your theory is interesting, but it doesn't work for me because then someone who's awkward and uncomfortable with a sword really doesn't have any business going into battle, and that doesn't fit with Eowyn's character and the rightness of her choice to be there, IMO.

I guess I just don't think she looked that awkward. A bit yes. But Miranda captured so many other parts of the character that it didn't bother me? I can't think of another actress who I think would have done a better job.
