Would you rather be capable of speaking with plants or with insects?

Oooo, good one. I'm going with insects. I could tell the bees and ants to stay away from me and have fun conversations with the rest of them. Don't care so much about plants.

What if they swarm you after realizing you can understand them? You can talk to them, not command them. Also there are no promises they are friendly or will believe you when you say you mean no harm.

I'd still rather talk to insects than plants. I like most insects. Plants don't interest me much, and I'm not too interested in what they'd have to say. I would be fascinated to hear about how insects see the world.

Plants! They must see so much!

Also I'm afraid to hear what insects say about me. Even though I come in peace and never kill them, they'll probably just talking about biting me and all the billions of eggs they've laid in my fruit basket. I just don't want to know.

Uh, see a lot how? They can't move... Although if you become able to get a story or two out of every plant it would still be more than enough I guess.

As an entomologist, insects, definitely. I talk TO insects (mostly "Hi there buddy, sorry to bother you but I'm gonna need to move you outside") but to understand them would be fun.

I also like plants too but I'd imagine most of what they'd say is "Please move me, it's too hot/cold here," "I need water," "Get these bugs off of me," and "STOP STEPPING ON ME."

I don't think insects would make for very fun conversational partners. Don't most of them have really short lifespans?

Some trees in the world are hundreds or even thousands of years old.
