Rose brought out the worst in 10. He was pretty damn insufferable at the end of his tenure.

Actually, 10. You're not supposed to dislike the hero/protag/titular show character, I'm reasonably certain.

I haaaaated 10 with Rose, but paired with someone (Martha, Donna, hell even Wilf) who doesn't buy into his "Lonely God woe is me" schtick I actually find him pretty tolerable.

I had exactly the opposite trajectory with 11: I started out really liking him a lot, but by 7B and the specials, I got to actively hate him.

Clara wasn't even a character during his tenure; she was a plot device whose traits shifted to whatever would help move the plot along best. It wasn't until she was a) paired with 12 and b) actually was given something that she wanted, that I gave a singe solitary fuck about her.

I don't hate 10, but he's by far my least favorite Doctor. Insufferable I could deal with because the Doctor is supposed to be arrogant. But unlike with other Doctors, we weren't supposed to see it as a flaw (at least until the end of his tenure). But the worst part for me was how human he acted. Tennant didn't seem to put in much of any effort to appear alien. That was somewhat the writing, but Eccleston seemed alien enough to me.

This being said, I like 10 with Donna (he needs someone to call him out on his crap), and he was decent with Martha too.
