My friends made me watch all the Twilight movies a couple years again and I actually loved Rosalie (which I was told was not a popular opinion), but damn those movies are bad.

I think the Twilight universe has a lot of interesting characters trapped inside Meyer's terrible writing.

Loving Rosalie is unpopular because she's set up as an antagonist for Bella, and Bella is essentially a blank slate for the reader to imagine themselves as/identify with, but Rosalie's backstory (from what I've heard about it) is super tragic and fascinating and complex. The trouble is, Meyer's writing doesn't lend itself to adequately exploring complex concepts. Rosalie is mean to Bella, so she's basically a terrible bitch and you're supposed to hate her.

Idk. Giving her the backstory she did, I guess Meyer was aiming for creating a sympathetic, nuanced character with interesting motivations, but she didn't have the talent to pull it off.
