The former, more or less...but really why they consider the other ending to be 'correct.'

To be more specific and spoilery:

There's actually two different (not mutually exclusive) interpretations, both of which I disagree with.

1) The tornado is going to kill literally everybody (except Max and Chloe).
2) The weirdness isn't just a consequence of Max using her powers, but specifically a Final Destination situation where the universe wants Chloe dead, and thus the weirdness will continue getting worse, as long as she's alive.

So...if you believe either or both of those, I can see why one would hate on Max/Chloe, but...I don't consider the former particularly realistic even within the framework of a story involving time travel, as well a being inconsistent with what we see in the relevant ending, and the latter is just completely out of left field.

Huh, interesting. I agree with you about the second one being totally nonsense, that possibility never occurred to me. I normally would have taken the "Save Arcadia" ending because it was what Chloe asked for, and sacrificing yourself to save millions of people is a worthy way to die... except by the end the narrative had totally convinced me that the tornado happened because the universe wanted to get rid of Arcadia, not Chloe...

This is reminding me of why I looked at the fandom a couple times and just went "nope" and never looked back. I don't seem to agree with or understand any of their ideas.

Same. I occasionally poke into art areas, since the crazy-ass theories won't show up, but I avoid discussing it with anyone but a handful of friends, because...yeah.
