If you can enjoy it just as much by doing it in the shower or something, then I'd say do that, just in case your roommate is able to hear you and can tell what you're doing.

But as someone who tends to masturbate very regularly, once a night, lying in bed, before going to sleep, I can absolutely understand that time, place, and position are very important for some people. So if you are one of those people...I mean, personally I'd probably keep doing it and just be as quiet as I could. But then my preferred technique involves about as much total movement as scrolling on a track pad. Whereas, if your technique is more vigorous than that, it does seem likely that your roommate will become aware of what you're doing at some point, and that's definitely not going to be entirely comfortable for them.

This is a tough situation, OP. Bottom line: I don't think it's bad or wrong to masturbate while they're there. But if they become aware of it, it's going to be annoying and uncomfortable for them, and the two of you could well end up in a situation where they become increasingly annoyed and unable to ignore your wanking habits, but don't know how to say anything about it, while you carry on night after night, believing them unaware.
