nayrt but where was it obvious? I think it's possible to read him having a crush on her when he was young. But the flashback scenes were dominated with his interest in Victor, which is a weird juxtaposition if the narrative really was trying to establish Yuri as having romantic interest in Yuuko.

I think if anything, the series might have teased the suggestion in episode 1 when he goes back to the Ice Castle and seems to blush and be glad to see her, only for it to be immediately revealed that she's married and the potential romantic plotline immediately killed. But I don't know if that necessarily reflects Yuri's actual romantic feelings, or if the anime was setting up the predictable romantic premise as a mere bait-and-switch.

"but where was it obvious?"

the fact that he literally started to confess his feelings to her. I gather from this comment you don't really know Japanese, but the grammar he used is ALWAYS used to preface a confession of romantic feelings. It's canon that he was going to confess romantic feelings to her.

It is NOT canon that he expected to start a relationship, and I don't think he would have. He knew she was married and was in a rough patch in his career and wanted closure. Not sure why so many people think him having feelings for her makes him a home-wrecker...

That grammatic structure is used as bait-and-switch all the time.

One of the first time I noticed that was on CCS. So many times did Touya seem to want to confess to Yukito... when he only wanted to tell him he knew about Yue.

So no, sorry, even those "(name) no koto" aren't necessary a preface for a confession.

Its basically a classic red herring the way it's used so often by now.

They are just trying to cone up with excuses to justify their dislike of bisexual Yuuri who had feelings for a woman, ewww.
