That stupid "cure for cancer" thing was a single throw-away line in a Hudlin comic, and all Hudlin comics are high on my list of "too stupid to count as canon". Wakanda is certainly better than Atlantis and vastly better than the Inhumans even by comics morals.

Also, if you want to go with "holds people to ransom because they can do super-science and don't share", you can start with Reed Richards, then move on to Tony Stark, Hank Pym and even Peter Parker, all of whom have amazing, world-changing inventions that would so significantly shift the reality of the Marvel Universe that it wouldn't be recognisable as based on our world anymore. So don't start in on Black Panther with that bullshit unless you're ready to recognise every other scientist hero in the Marvel Universe as having the same problems.
