My fictional heroes would never be proud of me. All I know how to do is try to stay safe and comfortable even if I believe something is wrong. I can't take confrontation or pressure. Oh, they'd be disappointed in me. I need a reality check. Maybe the problem lies in the genres I choose. Superhero movies and epic fantasy might not be what I should feel I need to live up to, yes? Do other people feel bad about how they would let down the characters they admire?

Yeah, pretty much all the time. I know that feel, bro.

You know those threads where people are like "what character/celebrity/etc. would you have lunch with?" Me, I'm like, no one because I would be too embarrassed and ashamed of myself to ever inflict my awful presence on anyone.

I feel bad because that's what motivates me to not give up, not me being a good person.

Idk because my favorite characters are sad sacks lol

I don't think about it in these terms (i.e. "I'd let them down" or "they wouldn't be proud of me"), but I do often think about how poorly I measure up to all of these incredible characters I admire the hell out of.

Same.

You need to not measure yourself to characters created for the purpose of escapism
