I'm skeptical that consuming m/m or f/f media makes straight people into unproblematic LGBTQ allies

Wait, are there people that think it does?! I've known enough straight girls who think m/m is hot in fiction but real life gay people don't deserve equal rights that it's hard to believe anyone would make that argument.

I've unfortunately encountered people who used their love of mlm media as a shield against being called out (or "called in" preferably.) And then there's a long-standing argument that mlm media really isn't about mlm, and any criticism of it is misogynist.
