Help me decide on this thing!

(Anonymous) 2017-06-27 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Post if you have something you can't decide on, and people can help you figure it out!

My dilemma:

My boss suggested today that I take a vacation next week. I don't want to next week for various reasons (mainly being that it's my birthday and I'm planning on celebrating on the weekend and I like my vacations to be 'chill out in my pajamas watching TV and not leaving the house if I don't want to' time and getting dressed up and going out doesn't exactly fit into that). But I also know that I'm a weirdo and if I end up staying home on my birthday with no plans, I'm going to be all depressed and feel like no one cares, despite it being my decision not to do anything (yes, I realize that sounds insane).

But the week after, they're doing construction in my area and one of the main things I love about vacation is being able to sleep in every day, and I'm not going to be able to with the construction noise.

But the week after THAT, the person who does my job when I'm not there is having surgery, so I can't be out.

So that takes me to the next week, which is almost a month away and I'm not sure I want to wait that long because I desperately need a break.

This is really dumb but I don't know what to do. Thoughts?

First, I totally get you on what vacation means to you vs. not wanting to spend your birthday stuck at home alone vegging out. That makes sense to me because I'm the same way.

If I were in your position, I'd wait for the almost month away, but I totally understand needing a break.

So I guess what it comes down to is whether or not you're forced to take off for vacation in week-long blocks? If not, and you need the break, I'd take three days off next week, not including your birthday, and then taking another two days off almost a month from now. If you're able to do that.

Why can't you relax for most of the break and celebrate on the weekend as planned? I'm confused by this part of the problem because it sounds like your vacation will be longer than a weekend, but you're only planning on doing your birthday on the weekend anyway? The rest of the time isn't enough for vegging out? I say this as a person who totally understands the value of doing sweet fuck-all on my breaks AND tends to feel left out due to my own decision not to socialize.

This is where I fall too, it seems like the best of both worlds.
