Not entirely sure how to feel

(Anonymous) 2017-06-27 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I ran a fandom tumblr for several years, usually 2+ reblogged posts a day, decent follower count, but I was getting tired of sifting through the tags for fanart and it was becoming more work than fun. So I just... stopped.

And on one hand it's a relief. I was putting a lot of time and effort into it and all I was getting out of it was fandom opinion tainting my enjoyment of the source material.

On the other I've not updated in over a month and not a single person's attempted to contact me to see what's up. It's easier this way, I didn't want some big dramatic thing, but I was kind of hoping at least a couple people would wonder why I stopped. Probably it's just a sign I shouldn't have pushed myself to keep going as long as I did.

I've followed fandom tumblrs that stopped, and sometimes I was sad they stopped and I missed them, but I never messaged anyone because I figured it was their own damn business if they didn't feel like talking about Oingo Boingo anymore or whatever. I don't mean you shouldn't have stopped, it sounds like that was the best thing for you. I just mean don't assume people don't care at all.

Hell, when I have known people who stopped running blogs or said blogs have explained, its usually pretty much what OP said - it was tiring, it was more work than fun, sometimes real life got in the way, etc. So I don't ask cause I don't feel entitled to the explanation, but I do miss them.

I'm not on tumblr anymore but I watched a lot of blogs go dark or disappear entirely. I was sad about them but I never messaged anyone about them. I always figured that if it were my business, I'd know why. Either through my inbox or a post on that blog. If I don't get that, then it isn't my business. It seemed like most users operated in the same logic.

Thank you, that helps to think most people probably are just being understanding that these things happen.
