I think the execution of the prequels with regards to Anakin (and some other things) is a bit lacking but I think the underlying story was really good for him. I like how tragic it is. I also feel that people want Vader to be something he wasn't (and that's spilling over to Kylo Ren).

I think the books/cartoons/comics do a good job of delving into Anakin's backstory in a better way than the movies, so I think his story is a good one and makes him an interesting character.

I like the prequels for what they wanted to be. The movies were bad, but the ideas behind them were interesting. I liked that the Emperor wasn't some foreign conqueror, but instead subtly manipulated the Empire's rise from the inside. I liked the moral ambiguity of the Jedi. I liked that Anakin's fall from grace didn't come from generic powerhunger but because he cared too much (which, in retrospect made his redemption make more sense). There was a lot of potential, but it sadly it didn't pan out the way it should've. The Clone Wars cartoons helped fix a lot of issues, but I'm sad the movies themselves were such a mess.

This is pretty much how I feel about the movies.

Yes, this. I don't have a problem with the ideas - well, except for midichlorian thing, that was stupid, but I love the back story we get for the Emperor and Anakin, and I love young! Obi-Wan, especially when Ewan McGregor chilled out a bit and stopped worrying about doing a perfect Alec Guiness impersonation.

Most of the fan criticism of the prequels I've seen goes down that line, too, so I'm not entirely sure where OP is coming from.
