Nope, it's totally on the money.

Is it though

Like it just feels to me like Middle East politics cut a little deeper than that but ok

I think in this particular case it doesn't fall under Middle Eastern politics at all.

Gadot has nothing to do with politics, except for the fact that she's Israeli and chose to follow the laws of her country and complete a mandatory non-combat term in the military. That's it.

So, if someone is objecting to the movie because of Gadot's casting, what they're really objecting to is Hollywood hiring a Jewish Israeli woman. Either they're anti-Semitic, a misogynist, or they're saying that individual citizens of a country are somehow magically able to control the actions of their military and government. All three of those things are fucking awful.

(Obv there's also the people who just thought Gadot was a bad pick bc she's too thin or they think she's a bad actor or whatever, but most of them probably weren't so invested in their opinion that they'd be "haters".)

I mean I don't think their arguments are consistent or correct. But I think they're pretty genuinely drawn from actual political beliefs, not a pretext for them to express their hatred of Gal Gadot.

I think the problem is that she's a IDF supporter.

Hollywood doesn't seem to object to casting Jews or women though so the idea that this makes them sexist or antisemitic is ridiculous.
