...wasn't it the one they showed getting blown up by the new Death Star?

No. That was Hosnian Prime.

Yeah, they weren't that good at explaining that stuff in the movie. You actually don't really know unless you read the novels that it was a planet called Hosnian Prime and the New Republic had gone to this system of moving the center of government every so-many years presumably to prevent one place from accruing all the power or whatever.

So yeah, it looked like Coruscant (because big city buildings blew up) but it wasn't but they didn't bother to actually spell that out. I thought it was Coruscant too until later and then I was annoyed that they didn't bother to even put in a throwaway line to explain that (but you know...you can't do a throwaway line to explain why they moved or why we should care about this new planet and its people. They really should've just made it Coruscant).

Even with that, I'm going to continue to pretend it's Coruscant unless it factors into the following two movies in a big way.

Fair enough. I'm sure you're not the only person doing it. :)

I totally assumed that was Coruscant and had no idea it was supposed to be something else.

Hopefully Coruscant won't pop up again because people will be confused and then they really will have to explain.
