What world do you live in? I wear flowing clothes and knee high boots to the office on a regular basis. Wore an evening gown once for a dare (I wasn't seeing clients that day, but it livened up the team meeting).

I wish we live din a world where it was more acceptable for men to dress that day.

(Because, that picture... UNF.)

(Anonymous) 2017-07-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
So start a trend.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Start wearing them, you might be the trendsetter that brings the into fashion. For every fashion there has to be some weirdo who starts wearing the new outlandish clothes first. Then others look at them, think it might be cool and there you go.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-02 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it anyway.

Capes and cloaks should definitely have a come back. I think this every time I see Star Wars.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-02 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think boots and flowing jackets are that far out of reach for a woman in terms of social acceptability.

this. They're not super mainstream but they're definitely acceptable.

Of course, there are different subcategories of that, as well.

Be the change you want to see in the world. All fashion trends have to start somewhere. The only roadblock is if peoples stares bother you too much.

Those outfits were one of the only redeeming features of the Hobbit movies! Sadly Lee Pace is very tall and I am not, so I wouldn't be able to pull it off. ;)

I see this kind of silhouette all over zulily.com (https://www.zulily.com/p/black-hi-low-tunic-plus-244392-46558980.html?pos=related&ref=related&from=45687518&fromEvent=244392&origProduct=45687518) Anon, so I'm pretty sure a modern take on flowing robes and tall boots can happen in the form of long, ornate flowing tunics and even button down dresses opened up and worn in layers over the pants/tights and boots. (Altho there's slightly less of it right now this very minute because we're in the middle of summer, but you get the idea.)

Fucking Zulily. No, I don't want to give you my fucking e-mail address JUST so I can look at some fucking clothes!

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

RIGHT? I went to go look and you get this annoying pop up you can't close! Fuck that, Zulily.

If you have Stylish installed you can kill it by making a style for zulily.com and using #loginModal {display: none !important;} then browse as your heart desires. You might have to disable that style to make an order but they never have what I like in my size so I don't know if that would be necessary.

You don't have a burner email address you give out to spammy websites just to access the content? I've used the same one since I was 13. Sometimes I check the inbox for entertainment.

I still have an aol account for this.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Get a throwaway spam email for signing up for crap like that. It can be very useful.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Any online retailers that require me to sign up just to see what they have will never get business from me.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I would LOVE Thranduil's wardrobe, but I'm really short and they wouldn't look nearly as impressive on me. :(

Change up the fabrics and some of the details and a woman could totally get away with clothes like this. Long dress/tunic/trench coat garments with slits in the skirt, worn over pants or leggins, come and go in fashion all thge time.
