How do you rate the summer movie season so far?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-02 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen as many movies as I have wanted to this year, but of the ones I've seen (Guardians of the Galaxy and Baby Driver), I've really enjoyed them and am super glad I got to see them in the theatres.

What has every body seen, and what are your general thoughts on the summer movies this year compared to last year's or other years?

I personally am glad to see Transformers: The Last Knight bring in less than $100mil in the US. I think Paramount will continue with more films since this franchise is popular overseas, but I don't know what direction they will take the franchise.

It felt about 10 minutes too long, but otherwise it was great. Glad to see Jon Hamm working.

It did drag very slightly, the action scenes all felt like they were, like, 2 shots too long. And there were moments where it felt a little overly-precious. But at the end of the day, the sheer joy of such a fucking perfect piece of pure genre filmmaking far outweighs all of that stuff.

And yeah Jon Hamm was really good.

Ehhh

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh

When do you consider SMS to have started...

If we're counting May - present, i've only seen Wonder Woman, Captain Underpants, and The Mummy, and the only one of those I watched in full was CU.

If we're couting March (?????? some people do), it's a little better.

I am looking forward to Homecoming, War For the Planet of The Apes, and Valerian.

Oh I still have to watch Guardians and Baywatch and King Arthur but i'm waiting for online copies. I know the last one is already there but .... you have to prepare yourself for Ritchie's editing, I find.

Also, Okja.

I've only seen Guardians of the Galaxy 2 this year but I loved that.

The Mummy was mostly boring with a few decent action scenes and TF:TLK was just as bad as the previous movie, so I'm not really surprised that people are no longer interested in them.

I saw Guardians 2 and WW. Worth the trip, definitely.

Valerian could be fun, and family members are psyched for Blade Runner 2049.

Isn't it coming out in august? Or late july maybe. I've got to see this one as I used to love the comics way back.

I think the best thing so far this year was the My Little Pony Trailer.

I think that it looks like it will be a legitimately better movie than pretty much all of the recent blockbuster releases.

I hadn't gone to watch a movie since last December because not a single one interested me (except one and it was in and out of theatres in about 2 weeks and I missed it), so yesterday, when a friend and I went shopping, we decided on a whim to go catch a movie. And the only thing we were at least half interested in was King Arthur.

It was... entertaining. Also a huge mess of a movie but hey, Jude Law was a definite plus.

I was traveling when GOTG2 came out and for some reason I just don't feel excited enough about it to catch it in theater even though it's still showing in some places. I've seen almost everything else of note. Best are Wonder Woman and Baby Driver (very different films, both awesome). The Mummy was as bad as I was led to believe, but eh, didn't have to pay for those tickets.

I loved Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 and Wonder Woman so far, and am really looking forward to Homecoming, Valerian, Dunkirk and Logan Lucky. Other than that, not much interests me until November.
