I used to do that too. I thought that it was really important to "spork" Mary Sues and that it was some kind of offense that they hooked up with canon characters. I am so ashamed of that now. I mean people were having fun and if I didn't think it was fun all I had to do was not read it.

Anyway I think you should forgive yourself for it. A lot of people went through that phase.

Yes, this. People can write what they want to write. I'm not going to read it, and I keep my own Mary Sues to myself. But there is nothing wrong with people putting fanfic online that they like. And clearly there are readers for that sort of thing.

Exactly.

If you don't like it, don't read it. Don't complain or try to shame those who put their fics online, just move along and read what you want, or write it yourself.

I really don't have a horse in this race, but to someone who is watching from the outside, the OC hate is ridiculous.

I definitely did, although I must admit I drew the line at the canon characters one. I never really understood why that was a problem, provided the OC didn't dominate the whole story through the romance. But the fact itself never really bothered me.

I didn't consider every OC who had a relationship with a canon character to automatically be a Mary Sue. But a lot of people did think that.
