Is it possible for an extremely sex repulsed person to write smut?

Well, one of my Tumblr followers who is extremely sex repulsed and blocks my NSFW tags gifted me once with a smutty ficlet of our joint OTP. So I'd say yes.

That seems to strange. Why gift you with that when they could gift you with something non-smutty?

It was a point where I was having a really bad few weeks and was not feeling well. I'd written a few non-smutty drabbles based on prompts of theirs. They knew I like porny stuff. So it was a present. It was nice.

Yes but I'm not sure why they'd want to.

It's possible. I don't know if they'd be good at it and I don't really know why they'd want to, but there's no reason it couldn't happen.

IRL I'm probably in the high 80s percentile towards sex repulsion. In fiction, I can sometimes read it (though usually I skim or skip, and get more out of the emotional sections), and I have occasionally written it. I'm generally more about the feelings, but sometimes sex happens and is important to the story. I also find that certain hormonal cycles influence my willingness to not be grossed out by sex. But in general, it's something I'm not interested in ever actually doing, you know? Not ever. IDK if this helps.

Hell yes to hormone cycles. Most of the time I'm ambivalent/annoyed by/disgusted by sex.

And then there's when I'm ovulating.

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NO, OVARIES. NO MEANS NO.

I tend to yell that at my ovaries with regards to kids. I have no interest in having them but sometimes they start sending me messages like WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO HAVE A BAAAAABY?

IT'S NOT TOO LAAAAATE, YOU'RE NOT EVEN THIRTY-FIVE. Shut the fuck up, ovaries.

Honestly, I think sex repulsion is the best way to explain how some types of smut could possibly exist.

Sounds about right.

I'd say so. I mean, I am non violent and real life violence upsets me, but I've written violent fic and other things I would be repulsed by irl. Don't see why it wouldn't be the same for sex.

Sure. I think you could learn the formulas and tropes and crank it out without enjoying the content (like how published romance authors don't all like the genre, some just write it as a job). If we're talking unpaid fic writing, I'd wonder why they'd bother, though, especially with how people complain about there not being enough gen fic.

I'm sure it's entirely possible. But it seems pretty unlikely that the smut they wrote would be particularly hot. (Not that all sex scenes have to be hot to be worthwhile, mind you.)

One of my absolute favorite smut fics was written by an author I later learned is sex-repulsed.

I view it like one poster above. I would never, ever kill someone in real life, but I have written murder mysteries where I have to get inside a killer's head. It's an intellectual exercise. Almost anything in fiction can be broken down into tropes, and once you learn them, you can apply them. Or at least, that is my experience.

I am guessing it would be entirely possible, but why?

I mean I physically could write out an animal torture scene, but it wouldn't be a pleasant experience. I would guess it makes a big difference if they seen erotica as unpleasant as other forms of sexual content? Like I hate seeing kissing, something about it squicks me and I hate hate hate watching gifs of gross germy mouths being shoved together, but reading it is just fine.

Also most of my experience has been that good does not have to equal arousing, and vice versa. Some of the most arousing smut I've read has been, in hindsight, pretty badly written. But it was obviously by someone who shared the same turn ons and knew how to express the important bits very well.

Maybe they're especially good at it. There are plenty of smut scenes where it's obvious they were written one handed, so that not being the case might even improve the writing...
