I am always so disappointed in Warcraft fiction. None of the pairings I was drawn to are popular. :(

Which ones do you like?

Gladiator!Varian/Thrall. Sylvanas/Varian. Illidan/Kael'thas. There was an Arthas pairing I was into but I cannot remember what it was. I got into for a hot minute after reading his book.

Here's some at least, I do know that it was fairly popular at one point but I think all of it may have been on LJ and lost in authors purging their accounts when they left.

But even then the shipping side of this fandom has never been all that big.

The only shipping that got big was from the movie. Now I am doubly mad that there won't be another one! Could have had more shipping from it. :(

Yeah I'm not so surprised since movies reach a wider audience, the game while popular in it's own way doesn't have the same hold.

Oh man I'd love to have fun guessing which ships would be popular because of the game and which would gain traction purely from the movies alone(I do this with the MCU and it's always fun to see where fandom goes).

I can't disassociate Illidan from the whole Illidan/Tyrande/Malfurion thing which was such a daytime soap opera with the Powerful Yet Fragile Beautiful Girl ending up with Wise Patriarch McBeardy and Edgy McRebel (who turns out to be the Super Special Demon Ender!) pining after her forever, waugh.

I think the most popular things are Jaina pairings? I was never really into her as a character though, all the women in WoW (except Sylvanas maybe) kind of suffer from the early years of WCI/II/III where the writing for them was TERRIBLE. Not that the men were better (Malfurion is basically STILL Wise Patriach McBeardy and that's all there is to him) but there were more of them to choose from at least!

I've shipped Mograine/Whitemane since vanilla, but then they killed him in Mists. :c

ETA: Actually, now that I think about it, I think Sally Whitemane is my favorite female Warcraft character period. She's kind of fascinating! Saw her family destroyed by scourge, started/joined a cult, went power-mad, saw her best childhood friends (/possible canon ship?) get killed, still dedicated to cult, became its leader before getting killed/ressed, etc. Generally that's reserved for edgy heroes, not the female priest.

Lilian Voss is great as well.

IMO, Jaina was actually better in WC3... she's kind of gone down-hill ever since. (Her "relationship" with Kalec makes me blarg.)

Draka was good in WoD. Warlord Zaela was great in Cata (and then they ruined her by pairing her with Garrosh). Liadrin was great in BC... and then she was shelved, more or less. Yrel was great in Wod .. and then shelved, more or less. Thalryssa is already nearly irrelevant.

Oh seriously, no Illidan/Kael? Comparatively speaking, there's more of that than anything else involving Kael. He rarely gets shipped with anyone else, actually.

Well, that's because 75% of the Warcraft fic is RP of people's OCs turned into "fic".

Too many of the descriptions are of the "the new female [class] catches (Arthas'/Illidan's/Thrall's/Garrosh's/Rommath's) eye."

Legion and the movie spawned a lot of Gul'dan/Khadgar/Medivh etc. fics.

(There are actually a few authors writing really good stories for canon lore characters, but they get buried under all the ooc fanon crap.)

I've been thinking of writing both Sylvanas/Varian and a Vanthir/Arluin PWP, but I'm not sure I can get it together to get back into writing fic.

Yeah... I won't lie I like to try and pair them up for missions on my DK too. :P
