Books you wish there was a fandom for?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-04 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
As a book lover, this is one of the saddest things... you finish a book, you want to talk about it with someone and there's NO fandom. Only a handful of books/authors even have a fandom! Which ones do you wish you could discuss with fellow fans?

Martin Millar's Lonely Werewolf Girl works. I would love for there to be an active fandom around those. Or Simon R Green's non-Nightside books. I'd even take David Gemmell's Drenai series.

Anything by Robert Cormier. But I think they are too depressing for most people to really get into.

It's funny you mention that because I was just thinking about I Am the Cheese a couple of days ago. It could make for good fic, I think.

All his books are so fantastic. I wish they;d make some better movies of them. :(

Dune. I want a fandom that is more than just talking about the books. I mean, there are people who talk about them. But there is no shipping, no meta and theorizing, barely any fic to speak of.

There was, you are just a few decades late for the meta. I don't recall any shipping from back then, I think that the omnipresence of shipping in fandom is a very recent thing, but there was plenty of meta back in the day. It is just done by now.

I'm late for a lot of fandoms because I get into things most often after they are already done or well along at least. Ah, well. And yes, I wouldn't necessarily expect shipping. It would just be nice since personally, thanks to the miniseries, I sort of ship Paul/Irulan. And I'd like to know I"m not alone.

All the books I read, but they are actually old. I know for a fact that Sherlock and Count of Montecristo have some fandom of sorts, though.

If ACD Holmes is a thing you're into, have you tried The Seventeenth Step by Katie Forsythe? I've heard is phenomenal.

Never heard of it but I just googled it up and have a window open for it right now! This looks interesting so I'll give it a try. Thanks, anon! ♥

You're welcome! I hope it turns out to be as good as people have said it is. I can't vouch for it personally, because ACD Holmes has never really been my area. But Katie Forsythe also writes as Wordstrings, who wrote some absolutely incredible fanfic for the BBC Sherlock fandom. So I can at least guarantee that she's a damn good writer. :)

I'm starting the first story right now (An April's Journey) and this is definitely right up my alley and really good, I might add! Thanks again, anon!! ♥♥♥
