Ah the days of Light/L shippers fighting L/Light shippers. That was my main exposure to this fight.

This one was interesting though, because depending on which way you shipped it, Light and especially L's personalities drastically changed. Light obviously gets a great deal more woobified when he's bottom, but L was something else. Bottom L was always a naive autistic gentle-hearted weirdo. Top L was a sadistic, vicious powerhouse.

Personally, I liked L/Light exclusively because of that - I hated what "bottom L" was in the fandom, and thought L's actual character was closer to even his worst "top" self than the alternative.

BBC Sherlock fandom is similar, particularly about Sherlock. If he bottoms, he's outwardly prickly and stoic but inwardly kind of a woobie. Whereas if he tops, he's dominant in all areas, totally in control, skilled in seduction, and usually kind of predatory.

Toplock is...probably closer to canon? And yet I loathe the standard Toplock characterization, so I often skip Toplock fics. So basically, you and I are opposites, lol. :)

I'm not one of those asshats who thinks Toplock Is Wrong And Should Be Stopped though. Those people need to chill the fuck out.

Oh gods, I remember that! This applied to Near as well but he had three variations: in top one he was same as L in that regard, as a bottom he was basicly a catatonic daydreamer OR everyone's favourite dick cushion. L got that as well but rarely seen it.

Fics without porn worked best for me unless it was Mello and Sayu because that was my OTP.
