Re: How are you personally problematic?

I still say "retard" "gay" "Black person" "crazy" "Pussy whipped" "bitching" and what ever other word is "problematic" now a days.

I also believe that slapping your child on the butt is an acceptable form of punishment. Most people will label me Satan because of that.

I also believe that a woman can be hit in certain circumstances. One, single, open hand slap though, not a full out punch.

I also look at both sides of the coin during domestic/sexual assault cases. It's not always completely his fault, and she's not always completely innocent. Give me some hard evidence, and I'll judge according to that.

even if you're ~edgy~ and ~not PC~ it's embarrassing as fuck to hear a grown adult say "retard" and "gay," I hope you realize you sound like a 10 year old.

Same. Elementary school called, it wants its insults back.

I don't call people that as an insult. I just say "They're gay" or "They're retarded" instead of saying whatever word they're trying to push now a days.

Why do you believe those things, though

In case of the last two points but especially the last: Why don't you?

The last one is basically fair enough. I think there's still the point to be made that society is tremendously unequal in significant ways. And I think that there's something to be said, like... when you're in a situation where someone accuses someone of abuse or sexual assault, your first priority should be about making sure that they're safe, and not about questioning the legitimacy of the accusation or trying to judge their moral probity. But, yes, when it comes to figuring out what's true, you should judge the situation on its merits of course.

The third one is like... it's true in some sense, but it feels extraordinarily weird to frame it that way. Like, it's talking about it the way that someone on a diet talks about how much chocolate they're allowed to eat. The point isn't to draw lines about how much violence you're allowed to get away with. It's that violence is bad and should be avoided wherever possible. You can come up with hypotheticals where anything is justified. I don't think it's a useful thing to do outside the specific instance.

And then, I mean, setting aside my disagreements with those points, I would just be interested in hearing why dancingmouse believes those things. That's the other reason I asked why they believed those things - because they didn't say.

the last point is literally the only reasonable one here

I agree and do the same things. Except saying retard. But that's out of respect for my brother. He was always being called retarded by our dad because he's on the spectrum. It's a very strong hot button for him, so I don't say that one.

With the exception of "retard," most of these do not rate very highly on the problematic scale, in my experience. There are certainly situations where you would want to use a different term, sure, but they aren't likely to get people mad at you most of the time.
