I love imagining alien races from various canons being part of the Citadel from Mass Effect. Like trolls from Homestuck. Or ponies from MLP (ok they're not aliens but I like imagining how an actual sapient ungulate would work). Many others too.

Lately I've gotten into a really random but fun one in my head. I'm a huge fan of Civilization V, and I'm a huge fan of The Wheel of Time, my favorite fantasy book series. So I imagine if the nations and other political designations of people in WoT were civs, what their colors and symbol would be, who their leader would be, and what their uniques would be. I like thinking about how they would function in-game. Also what their city names would be. Like I kind of want to write up a whole thing with how I'd introduce an expansion pack with 6-10 of them.
