Roll20.net does online D&D, Pathfinder, and other games. Since I'm only interested in other games, I get annoyed at wading through the D&D-esque games where most of the action is going on.

It's free (or at least, it has free & paid accounts, and free has plenty of features), and it's very easy to get started.

It's mostly school-age (hs, college) white boys playing school-age white boy D&D, which means they're all about smashing dragons and looting ancient temples and have all the character development of a random RPGMaker pixel-art game. (Which isn't awful, but not what I'm looking for.) However, there are other groups, and there's a LOT of variety in play styles once you get away from the majority.

It's worth poking around at if you're interested in tabletop RPGs; it's definitely not as fun as meeting in person at a table, but if nothing else, it can get you familiar enough with the tropes and mechanics to look around for local groups.
