Wait, what? I can't leave my family farm to my kid even if he wants it?

What the hell are you smoking.

If your kid wants it he can bid for the land at auction, with his own cash, along with everyone else. Same as bidding for the machinery and livestock himself, with his own money.

Are you saying "That's mad, my kid could never afford that", well that is the point. Farming is a profession priced out of the means of most people, achievable only by inheritance, and that is a bigger tyranny and market distortion than what I'm saying should happen.

Soooo it should all be concentrated into the hands of giant corporations instead. Because that's awesome.

Man, fuck you. I'm going to leave my stuff (including my house and cars) to whomever I want to have it. What the hell is this "auction" and "bidding" of which you speak?

It would actually be better in corporations. There is much more oversight of those, and there is much more equalities legislation regarding hiring. It puts people back on a more even footing.

If my kid decides he doesn't want the farm, he can sell it. It appears that you'd rather have power concentrated into the hands of a few powerful corporations, like some kind of oligarchy, than in the hands of independent people. What "even footing" are you even talking about? So we can all be "equal" serfs together?

is the problem here the inheritance, or the factors that lead to the high prices

it seems like you're focusing on the symptoms and not the disease

In this case it is a vicious cycle, so you break one and you break the other.

That's not how that works

I mean, like, yes, breaking one side of the vicious circle does break the vicious circle, but it doesn't actually create an equitable or stable situation. it just disrupts that particular vicious circle.

That makes no sense. I'm all for ending the US subsidies of farming. But farming isn't just a job, it also involves property ownership. And land passes rightfully to whoever the original land owner decides. That's the way it works. You can't expect to change that just because farming also happens to be a job too. Unless you are suggesting their should be no such thing as property ownership at all.

NAYRT

I mean. The fact that property passes - at present - by inheritance does not mean that it always has to be so. There are mechanisms for changing that if we want to, and changing it doesn't require entirely eliminating the concept of property. Similarly, you can keep the concept of property while changing the distribution of that property from what it currently is. The present division of property and inheritance isn't like some natural law.

That said, AYRT is definitely on one in a broader senes
