I didn't even know kid pageantry was a thing(not from the US) and when I first saw it was legit gobsmacked. It's just so damn creepy to me and I cannot understand why anyone would put their child through it.

I don't, either, especially when you see how unhappy so many of the kids are, and how stressed, and how manipulative the parents are. It's all around one of the ugliest things ever.

I've only seen a tiny bit of them, because they make me so damn uncomfortable, but all those little girls looked dead inside. It was so sad.

My daughter would watch sometimes and you kind of stop and stare, like you do at a bad car wreck. And these little kids would be exhausted and stressed (four year olds up at the crack of dawn and hustled all over hell's half acre, makeup and clothes and being 'on' and whatnot), and instead of a decent meal and a nap, like kids that age need, they'd have parents who gave them stuff like red bull and mountain dew mixed together so they could stay up and awake for the whole day/the next bit they had to do.

Of course, about half the kids would have screaming melt downs, and the parents would just be pushing and pushing and pushing the 'you have to be pretty and go dance now! you have to win that trophy!!' crap. It was horrifying.

And it costs a *fortune*, these people are buying five hundred, nine hundred, fifteen hundred dollar dresses and outfits, they're paying for lessons and teachers and hotels and all this shite, so they *have* to win to break even. Just - gah. Should be outlawed.

Yeah I've seen how awfully those kids are treated, like those pageants aren't going to do anything good for them in the long run. 'It teaches them confidence' no it teaches them that how they look is the only important thing and that they have to win or it was a waste of time.

Just... let the kid be a fucking kid?

And holy shit don't give a 5 year old red bull wtf is wrong with all those parents??

Right? Fucking disgusting, i was shocked CPS wasn't called or something. Forcing wee tiny girls to get their eyebrows waxed and their *eyelashes dyed*? W hen they were crying and saying no?

Basically telling them not only are their looks the only important thing, but 'no' means nothing and they have no control over their bodies.
