Yeah I think writers tend to box young girls into two different places, either a girl is a completely "girly girl" and loves dolls and dresses and etc or she's a complete tomboy who spits on all those things and only likes sports.

Most real girls fall somewhere in between that though.

I once had someone tell me that a female character in a story I had written wasn't realistic because she was a tomboy who liked to cook/bake and paint her nails, so yeah.

That person sounds... like they've never interacted with a girl in their life.
