And every child insisted on pretending to be everyone under the sun fiction wise almost irrespective of gender.

So true. I had my favorite female characters that I liked to pretend to be when I was a kid, yes, but there were many male characters I liked to act like as well.

I also like how fiction always has girls being all neat and tidy and proper with their Barbie dolls...and yet I've been part of so many conversations with other women who talked about taking the heads/arms/legs off their dolls when they were kids, or making them do other bizarre or "non-girly" things, or whatever :p.

Yeah. I really do not get any adults that think children's play must be regulated and structured and tailored to their gender and whatnot. It completely takes the fun out of childhood. Imagination and creativity are good things, necessary things, and adults should always encourage that in kids.
