I've not seen this but I've watched the first one recently. He really isn't that witty. He gets more goofy in later movies but in the first movie he only has like 10-15 lines of dialogue.

Yeah, I kinda remember the first one and the focus was mostly on the teens. As the movies went on and he got more popular and became an iconic character.
