This isn't why I enjoy Azula. If she was just an arrogant super powered brat I wouldn't care. Both her and Zuko start out in the same place, but she has the bad luck of being a prodigy whereas Zuko can't keep up and has a chance to build a more healthy identity. She has a breakdown because she was the favored child of a psychopath. I find it pretty tragic actually.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty clear that it wasn't that Azula "didn't care about pesky things like morals", it was that she was the golden child of an abusive monster, and always, always had to please her father.

I mean, when Ozai said she was staying behind while he went to go burn the earth kingdom? She said "you can't treat me like Zuko!" Because she's the favored child, and has lived her whole life with a very clear example of what happens to the unfavorite.
