I do not know the fandom but I will fight to my dying day against the notion that disliking female characters who actually are obnoxious, or pathetic love interests who were clearly created to be a plot coupon/arm decoration for some male character, is not misogyny. You can love your own gender without thinking that we are all angels and shed sparkly candyfloss instead of blood every month.

121. Gambon was also more like the book character, who was always a big jerk. Harris made everyone think he was coated in candyfloss, which was irritating--it absolutely sucked to be in the HP fandom and not like Dumbledore in the interval after the first movie and before OOTP, because everyone who saw the movie first and then read the books thought he shat rainbows. But I can't fault the man too much because he was fucking dying.

The MsScribe, the one that the hallowed halls of internet history (or Encyclopedia Dramaticae, as it's more commonly known as) has written so many legends about? Maan. I don't know why, but this feels like the equivalent of standing near a warveteran of some sort and trying, and fialing, to hold back the desire to ask if I can see their scars or tell me tales of the wank of yore. Was it really as epic as everyone says it was?

Yeah, kinda. A lot of my notoriety in the HP fandom dates to the day she posted in my journal telling me to look out for this Fandom Scruples that was one of her sockpuppets. "Hilarity" ensued in which Arabella, who runs the Sugar Quill, and I were more or less pushed into having a giant public fight about incest fic, because at the time I was modding a Malfoycest archive, and she said anyone who wrote that should go to jail, in her journal. So, okay, we all believed what we were saying, but it would probably never have been said in a big public wicked fight if someone hadn't been goading both her and me?

Then suddenly Arabella deletes her entire journal because I, allegedly, posted bits of a notorious Malfoycest fic that I wrote anonymously in her journal and it was sooooooooooo disgusting.

There are no screenshots. I have no idea if it was my fic or someone else's, but I never would post my fic anonymously because I think it's good enough to sign. It could have been my fic, but I know I didn't post it? There's no IP to look at now but I bet I know who did post it.

Anyhow, this was one of the main events that got the Goodshippers and the Slytherinficcers at each other's throats, because everyone in or reading Lightning War or Nox et Lumos or House of Ill Faith was furious about people accusing me of doing this thing. Before that we had more or less avoided one another except for occasionally looking into each other's stuff and being @_@;; who reads this crap? about it.

Of course I still don't think Dionne would have done some of this shit if Fandom Wank hadn't been so eager to spread it all over creation. As much as they like to say she is the evil of all evils, they did a lot to promote her.

This was just one of the minor incidents really, but it was major to me because it was the one that I was most involved in? I don't think a lot of people who were friends with her will ever wash off the bad, because of course everyone swears that we should have believed all the stories from jump and not given her the benefit of the doubt until we were presented with IP evidence from an unbiased, even friendly source.

I feel worse for Heidi because Heidi actually spent a lot of time with her in RL so of course she trusted her. Me...I saw these folks at Nimbus but most of my communication with them was over email (private email, members only mailing lists, Nimbus stuff) and telephone.

Man. Half of me is just taken aback that something like this can happen, half of me is awed that human being, one human being at that, can stir up such a shitstorm. Makes you kinda curious where and how it all begins, that someone decides to invest so much time and effort into something like this. I mean... I understand the appeal of internet forums. I've hung at a lot of places which have become like safe havens, second homes, places that I can rest and relax.

And maybe that's why I feel this... weird pull towards huge wanks like this. It simply and honestly BAFFLES me that people would take something like what I've described, good, clean sanctuaries and just do their best to bring them down with shortsighted stupidity, for... what? Laughs? Internet fame? Baffles me in my seat, it does.

People on FW were so upset that her friends (especially Heidi, and also me and some other folks) refused to believe that this was her doing for so long. But earlier, someone had managed to get her (Dionne, MsScribe) fired from her job over a stupid fandom quarrel, so we had reason to believe that people were out to get her, and if you didn't know about her sekrit sockpuppety life, she seemed...so NICE.

I mean really. She was married to a lawyer, she had a lot of health problems, she had 2 adorable little kids. I met her in person once, she was quite charismatic. If you went to lunch with her and attended parties with her and all, you would just never believe that she was really this kind of a person. She was funny, she had awesome politics, she wrote witty posts, she was smart--but she'd have to be, wouldn't she?

So it was easy to believe that the people who first got the goods on her (who were resentful and had never been friendly to us) were making it all up out of their asses, because she was our friend and we liked her and even I'd met her once in person. Also some of us had been victims of smear campaigns and stalkers before.

I don't know that GT or SQ was ever a good clean sanctuary. I can't, I was never part of those archives, but no place where people are threatening each other like GT can be so great? Nox Et Lumos was pretty nice, because all of the evil was in the stories and we were generally pretty nice girls. But it just floored me that anyone would do this.

I mean, she was a housewife, maybe she was bored even though she did have 2 little kids, but if I was that bored, I'd get me a job.
