Because a lot of people who have so-called "muses" may actually have mental illnesses. I don't mean this in a mean way, as I actually have both. But some people's "muses," "headvoices," or what have you may actually be part of an underlying problem. Having something guide you along when you write (which I think tends to stem from people who know their characters very, very well) to hearing actual voices are vastly different things.

One is a habit of many creative minds, but the other is most likely Schizophrenia (Or DID but that is extremely rare). The line can, and sometimes is, very thin. It depends entirely on the person who is involved. People who suffer from auditory hallucinations tend to lean on the side of not thinking they are sick, and thus come up with a viable excuse as to why they hear these things nobody else does. And that's how you get a mentally ill person with a "muse".

I know of someone like this, offline. It saddens me, actually. They seriously need medication but everyone around the behaviour because they think it helps them. It... is doing the opposite, to be frank.
