I mean, it's possible that it's something that many human beings would do, but was still poorly depicted in this specific movie.

Also even if you think the movie itself is entirely fine, marketing it as a romance was just incredibly fucked. And I do think if they hadn't done so it would have lessened a lot of the criticism.
