Anon who asked if it was BJD - THAT'S IT! I kept thinking "Wait, didn't they already have this?" But I kept thinking it was called My Twin or something and that's a different doll.

I guess it didn't sell well or they're rebranding it now? The faces are the same so it's not like the My Twin doll.

They still have the "My American Girl" line, except they call it "Truly Me" now. The custom line will allow users to choose vinyl color, face mold, eye color, hair color and style, and freckles and birthmarks. So you can make dolls that have never been available, like a light-skinned Addy mold with red hair and brown eyes or a dark-skinned classic mold with amber eyes and curly black hair. At least, I'm assuming that's what's gonna happen since the promo pic shows a light Sonali mold doll and a medium Jess mold doll.

in my corner of doll fandom, the wank tends to fall in the following categories:
Too light/too dark vinyl
Not enough eye colors
Not enough POC dolls
Not enough hair textures
They're turning into Barbie
The old management was better
Biracial dolls are always half white
You're racist if you only have white dolls
POC dolls are shafted in favor of white dolls
Disliking this doll's face mold means you're racist
No white doll should ever have the black doll's face mold
You can't dress a doll in another doll's clothes, especially if you're dressing a white doll in a POC's clothes

I mean, some of the wank is valid, especially the ones regarding colorism and what not, but damn, these are hundred dollar dolls and most people can only afford one or two of them, so they're only gonna get the ones they like and have them share clothes. And I really dislike how some people think it's totally cool to bash the lighter dolls, but those same people are quick to shout, "Racist!", if you say you dislike a POC doll.
