This is pretty much me, too. I read my fic, i enjoy all the pretty at Tumblr and Pinterest, and i rarely, if ever, see anything awful or really negative about the characters or 'ships i like.

And when I do, i block it, unfriend it, whatever.

Fandom is and always will be my happy place.

I try to do that, but sadly I tend to get really strong negative associations with really popular fandom trends. Like I don't mention anything Voltron anymore because "Space Dad" just really bothers me for a lot of reasons and fans just assume it's a totally fun thing to bring up that everyone loves.

And another fandom I was in just seemed like it was too small to support forming my own little sandbox of likeminded fans, and as long as everyone else is having fun on the beach there's not really much else I can do.

That's too bad, Anon. I don't really understand why someone else's headcanon ruins anything, since you can ignore it (or, I can ignore it). So - bummer.

The VAs talk about space dad on twitter, and last time I was at a con I would look at stuff to buy and people would be all "Oh, are you going to get the space dad print?!"

And I hatehatehate pulling the trauma card, but I'm a CSA survivor and the space dad stuff puts me in a really bad place mentally, especially if I'm not expecting it. It's not something I can just ignore. I can tolerate it, I'm not going to break down in the middle of the con or anything, but I am not going to buy that "space dad" print now because I just can't shake the icky feelings.

Sure, and i understand *that*.

I'm talking about people who aren't coming to something with the terrible baggage you're carrying, who seem to let other people's opinions or headcanons or even just stupid fun 'ruin' pretty much anything for them.

I dunno, when a headcanon is so popular and loved by fandom that it's pretty much accepted and discussed as canon... it's pretty difficult to avoid.

This is basically what I do too. The minute I see drama or negativity, I block/unfollow.

It's the only way.
