I'm very excited, first of all.

Second of all, IIRC it's supposed to be, like, a holiday special? Which I love and I hope this somehow leads to them doing a holiday special every year cause that would be so amazing.

I don't know how I feel about it, and reading the EW article/interview with Franks and Roday...I still don't know how I feel. I love that they're finally, hopefully, giving Gus a serious love interest, and I love that Jazmyn Simon, Dule's IRL fiancee is playing her because in the same vein as secret #4, I love when actor couples work together. It makes me giddy. I'm still kind of nervous about how they'll handle it though because the article/interview says "Gus is gonna get Gus'd" and I worry it'll come off as cringey, but we'll see.

I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I knew this because I recently worked background for it. Unfortunately, I never watched the show, so I couldn't be properly excited about it.

The author is maybe back from another hiatus? Hopefully we get another new chapter this week. Last week's was worth the month wait though. Seriously, I don't know what else is left to explore with Yoonbum without some other drastic change, but Sangwoo-centric chapters are just so over-the-top nuts, I love it.

I miss the days when anytime I got into a new fandom, there was actual creativity, with at least a couple fics for pretty much every pairing you could think of.

Nowadays it seems like every time I get into a new fandom it seems like the majority of the fic is about the canon couple(s), with a good amount of Main Dude/Female OC (or reader, which I will never understand) and only a small handful of anything else.

What happened to creative pairings? What happened to the crack pairings that made you say "what the hell? where did THAT come from?" I used to be annoyed by ships that seemed to make no sense, but now I want them back. Nowadays it seems like if it's not a canon relationship (or at least has some canon basis, where it's canon that one character has unrequited feelings for another or something), there's no fic for it.

Also, where did all the slash go? It seems like years ago, most fandoms were dominated by slash, now it seems to be predominatly het fics in everything, with M/M fics very rare, and F/F even rarer.

I miss the way things used to be. :(

(And I don't mean in animated or comic-related stuff, I'm talking about regular comedy or drama TV shows or movies.)

I don't know. I mean, I'm sure that everything is a matter of perspective, but I'm not sure I'd go quite as far as that. I do think F/F fandom has changed somewhat - it's very much about canon ships, mostly because most people in f/f fandom are queer women so they care a lot about seeing canon stories.

But I don't think M/F and M/M fandom have changed that much, and I don't think the proportions have changed much either - if anything, I would say M/F has decreased compared to F/F and M/M. And in terms of M/F and M/M ships, I don't think those have changed much either - M/M is still kinda all over the place, and M/F ships seem to still have the same priorities they always have (IE, they are largely determined by which male character the shipper wants to bang). I'm sure it depends a lot on perspective, but that's really the sense that I get, and I mostly see Western movie and TV fandom stuff.

In conclusion, those are my thoughts on yaoi.

That's more what I'm used to, the canon pairing is in competition with two slash pairings and a non-canon het.

But I think Doctor Strange and Wonder Woman might not be good examples - I think they're both sort of popular in a way where people talk about it but aren't fandom-y and ship-y. So they just don't produce a lot of fanworks period.

Tons of works, 2000 about the canon het pairing, 1000 about the teased canon slash pairing, then it drops to 400 for a non-teased-canon pairing.

I wish book fandom was a more of a thing. I know some (insanely popular) books have fandoms, especially if it's a series, and/or something that also has a TV or movie adaptation, but there are so many one off books by obscure authors that I wish had a fandom. If I was any good at writing, I'd definitely write fics for them.

OMG, finally getting around to watching the season that just ended (with 12 and Bill) and it's GREAT.

(only on ep 3 -- Thin Ice -- but it's just ... wow. They have such great energy!

I think I need a break from Doctor Who fandom on FFA. It's too Moffat-worshippy for my taste at the moment. I'm sure that might change in a few years, as it did when people distanced themselves away from Davies' tenure as showrunner, but some of the anons there refuse to understand why others don't like his tenure as showrunner. And they seem to ignore a lot of what he has said in the press that others have interpreted as offensive.

12 and Bill are just magic.

I didn't think I'd like Bill because of that first teaser trailer, but I was wonderfully surprised at how the character was actually played.

Even in the few episodes I didn't like this season the 12/Bill scenes were still amazing. Their chemistry/energy is the greatest. :)
