Re: yaoi.

I haven't waded too deeply in any western fandoms lately, but pretty sure yaoi is used for only Japanese (or maybe Korean) anime/comics. If it's live-action but based on a BL (or clearly serving those tropes), it's still called yaoi if it's East Asian.

I haven't really seen yaoi used to describe western stuff except maybe comics that seem to invoke BL. Certainly not in live-action stuff unless the fan is a very recent migrant from anime fandoms.

I think for most people, yaoi sounds like cartoons.
