I told my friends same thing after we saw it in theaters and they said I read too much into it.

You proved I'm not the only one who saw the abuse for what it was.

It didn't hit any personal triggers for me, but yeah, that was hella abusive. (I thought that was a deliberate writing choice?)

Could be.

I think the main problem is people don't always know what real abuse looks like. To some people, it's just Infernacus(sp?) and Quintessa smacking Optimus around a little and insulting him. They can't see the emotional abuse, manipulating and gaslighting.

It's not the smacking around that hurt him, it's the mental stuff. That scene fucked Optimus up beyond belief.
