People who write pregnancy fic do it for one of two reasons:

1) because that is their fetish

2) because they want to write about the character(s) having a baby

That's why you don't see tons of abortion fic. The baby is the point (in the non-porn pregnancy fics.) People don't write abortion fic because that would defeat the purpose (and because thankfully few people have an abortion fetish.)

eehhh, abortion is very not sexy (physically or emotionally) and people tend to like an element of sexy in their H/C. I know I like an element of sexy in there, although "sexy" can be a relative term since people have different kinks. But like I said above, thankfully few people have an abortion fetish

Granted, I don't really understand the genre... but are rape and torture and disease and other traumas meant to be sexy then by comparison?

I'm pretty sure that most people who are writing those stories use the particular H they do because it fits their kinks, yes

I don't think that's necessarily true of "most" hurt/comfort writers. I think the disparity between the number of fics written about abortion vs other sensitive topics comes down to the fact that more writers recognize that it is difficult to deal with it in a way that readers will sympathize with. Not every writer worries if every reader thinks they handled a topic sensitively so long as their fic is hitting the right emotional notes, but most hurt/comfort writers don't want to write hurt/comfort where a good chunk of their readers may think the hurt character is on the wrong side of an extremely divisive issue.

Those other topics AYRT mentioned are also common themes in popular canons, so even inexperienced writers are familiar with the cliches, tropes, etc that readers expect when they read a hurt/comfort fic involving them. Abortion doesn't show up quite as frequently in the canons that fans are drawn to, IME.

Would you really want fic writers dealing with something as heavy as abortion for hurt/comfort stuff though? I get the feeling a lot of it would be half-assed and trivialized and just. Not handled well. Miscarriage fic is already handled about as delicately as a sledgehammer through a window, I'd hate to see abortion issue fic popping up in addition to all the other clumsily written issue fics.

Sorry, I didn't mean specifically you wanted it. I just meant in a general sense of "oh god let's not give issue fic writers ideas because imagine how terrible."

I have read one that handled it as just a realistic theme, and the character had the abortion. I mean, it took place in a canon with an episode that deals with abortion being illegal because of population concerns, so I wouldn't have considered it issue-fic either. Not everything is fetishes and iddy fluff, but yes, there's enough of that around for me to guess it's really hard to find fics that treat it that way.
