The kind that plays a loud song while dispensing treats to children.

I'm from a city and yes, we had ice cream trucks, usually they would be around parks and things of that nature in the summertime.

We have those, but when I was a kid, the paletero guy with the bells on the cart was more common than the guy in the ice cream truck blasting the Tetris song over and over again.

When I was a kid, I never saw an actual ice cream truck. Just the guys on the pedalcarts with bells.

They exist where I live now, but not where I grew up.

Yep! And saddest thing in the world was when you heard the song but couldn't get change in time to catch the truck.

Yes! Or you got outside just in time to watch the truck go by your house.

Haha yes I distinctly remember a few times running outside just to see the truck is too far away and just feeling immense sadness.

Yeah and I loved when my grandma gave us money for it. We also had this guy that sold candy, jerky, and pickles out of the back of his truck...

Not when I was a kid, but we do have one now (sort of, they mostly sell ice cream packs).

Yes, and I always laughed when they would play Christmas music in the middle of July instead of the regular mix with Yankee Doodle and other songs.

Yes, and since my sisters and I went to school with the ice cream lady's daughter she knew where we lived and stopped in front of our house.

Oh yeah, still does. I live in the 'burbs, so just about every day in summer you can hear it drive around playing obnoxious music.

The Schwann's truck would come around every once in a while.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-23 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
But I don't recall there being music.

Mr. Softee! I'm so sick of the instrumental jingle!

Yep, in my old neighborhood.

In Des Moines, they're banned because 40 years ago, a child running after the ice cream truck was struck by a car. Every time the City Council has thought of relaxing the ban, the parents have guilted them into keeping it. I don't think I've ever heard the Good Humor man's truck here either.
