LOL... so many people naming things that aren't really common ingredients. Onions, I totally get. Ditto tomatoes. How hard is it to avoid sun dried tomatoes or raisins? Or fish?

I think common really depends on the area. When someone I know moved from the North East to the South East he was very surprised at the fact cheese is a common ingredient in Southern cooking because it wasn't back home.

Cake? Cream cheese frosting. Apple pie? Cheddar crust.
Cheddar biscuits. Cheesy casserole, cheesy vegetables, cheesy soups, cheesy potatoes. It's weird travelling and seeing all these common cheesy foods sans-cheese. But if I were to rant about all food having cheese in it, people from those areas would be very confused.
