To be fair, the 'status quo' allows everyone to enjoy fandom without getting harrassed. The sad fact is that any fandom with PoCs or sexual minority becomes toxic, period. It happened with Homestuck, it happenes with Steven Universe, there's signs that it's happening with the Black Panther movie, and it will happen here too. With white characters, everyone can cosplay, squee, write fic, etc., without being 'problematic,' but with non-white protagonists, the majority of your viewership is going to be locked out of fandom.
