Huh. I was tiny enough when this happened that it could very well have been a prank, but something similar happened when my mom's friend's daughfer, who is two years older than I am, decided we were going to play "summoning nature spirits." This was in prime northern California hippie territory, and I can easily see her picking the idea up from her mom or one of her mom's friends. I don't remember exactly whet we did, but this really deep voice came out of the trees and warned us to be careful, we might summon something we couldn't control. Tbere was no one else around, certainly no place for a grown man to hide unless someone had rigged a fucking amazing speaker system inside a tree. Maybe there's a bass-baritone demon/spirit that gets his jollies freaking random people out by answering their questions unexpectedly?
