Atelier is a game series about alchemy. You spend a large proportion of the games making and using potions, and I get the feeling that's not where my gaming skills lie.

Forgot to mention that I royally suck at Monster Hunter, another crafting-heavy series.

I suck at Monster Hunter but I did love the Atelier games. Maybe you can start with Escha and Logy? Logy's more about weapon crafting, which is admittedly more crafting, but it also means you can make better weapons that actually do damage instead of relying on potions to throw at the enemies.
